Orchestral Scores by Austrian composers

Post by Hobbypianist »

As desired by Rob, here are Wolf's major works for orchestra. (Well, the opera Der Corregidor is not included...at the moment I don't have the time to scan it in full score. However, on IMSLP there's the vocal score. Also, several sketches/ fragments are existing, but I don't think it's worth posting them because as the name says they are all unfinished and mostly from his years of study.)

Penthesilea, a very nice tone poem

Scherzo and Finale
(unfortunately, page 22 of the Scherzo is cut off at the right margin, not my fault. It's the miserable work of the printing house/publisher. I've checked this page in several libraries...always the same.)

Many thanks HP! I have recordings of some of these... What a great New Year's present. Thank you so much for your work here and at IMSLP. 8-)

You're welcome! ;)
I'm glad to see that you also like his orchestral music though he is actually better known for his songs.

Much to my shame I've never got into his songs. I think Betty Blackhead put me off them...

Got to agree with Rob here that that dear lady, Wally Legless and Dirty Disco with help from their followers and admirers totally nailed down the lid on the Lieder coffin, out went expression and in came "I did it all in one breath" as if that could ever be called expression!
Got to agree also that it is great to have access to other music from Wolf which raises my apprerciation of him whereas the songs send me in the other direction.
regards

Here are some Mahler in revised editions. These have critical commentary by Erwin Ratz (Universal Edition). I'm looking for the other symphonies in the same edition. If anyone has them, I'm interested.
