Music for Accordion, Bayan, Harmonica, Tar, Folk Instruments etc..

Post by caostotale »

Being interested in Russian/Ukrainian/etc... folk songs, I've inevitably come across countless volumes of compositions, arrangements, etc.. for instruments of the free-reed aerophone variety. While I'm certain there's very few (if any!) people who play this instrument on this forum, perhaps this will still be of some interest for anyone who likes folk/dance music:

While the first volume I posted (vol. 5) focused on music from the Soviet region, the volumes in this particular series much more commonly mix together works from all sorts of different sources, including arrangements of standard baroque/classical/romantic repertoire works (often including what the Soviet publishers often referred to as 'Russian composers', a category for the likes of Glinka, P. Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, etc.., anybody from before 1917), folk songs from outside of the USSR, and so forth.

Accordionist's Repertoire, vol. 4 (1966)

Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART - Waltz, in Bb Major
Carl Maria von WEBER - Waltzes (5)
Nikolai Andreyevich RIMSKY-KORSAKOV - The Dancing Buffoons, from the opera 'Sadko'
(no author), Alexander Dmitryevich TALAKIN (arr.) - Burenka, Scottish folk song
(no author), Alexander Dmitryevich TALAKIN (arr.) - Tyrolean Waltz
Dmitry Dmitryevich SHOSTAKOVICH - Waltz, from the film 'Michurin', op. 78 (1948)
Anatoly Grigoryevich NOVIKOV - Tanya's Song, from the music to the play 'Summer's Day' (bio at http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... a9_graKqVg )
I. SOKOLOVA - Song of the Mordovian Girls (no bio available)
V. KOSMIN - Dream, Begin (no bio available)
Lev SOLIN (Ukraine) - Wedding Waltz, from the music to the play 'Irkutsk Story' (1959) (bio at http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... ONHLO35mHw )

This composer lived a short life, but left a significant body of bayan work behind. His bio can be found at:

There's also a useful website dedicated to his life and works:

This volume is one from a series of bayan anthologies dedicated to popular 'light music' pieces. I've heard a few different renditions of 'Nightingale', by Alyabyev, a Russian composition that, over the years, has taken on the status of a national folk song. An orchestral version of the Baines work (excluding the intro) can be heard at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLTDISzWfQ8

A Russian language site that I frequent has quite a few other volumes from this series, but their link is a Letitbit page that insists the downloader use some fishy-looking applet called Skymonk. As I'm not interested in seeing my computer get devoured by malware, I've chosen to abstain. If anyone else had downloaded these before Letitbit implemented that 'option', I'd love to see the other issues in this series.
