Music for Trombone

Post by caostotale »

Since we've covered bassoon works pretty thoroughly, it's time to move on to another low-register instrument and another group of composers whose names are unfamiliar to me:

Soviet Pieces for Trombone and Piano, vol. 2 (1982)

V. SIMONOV - Pieces (2); 1. Meditation, 2. Scherzo
Kaly MOLDOBASANOV - Pieces (2); 1. Nocturne, 2. Humoresque
Mikhail BURSHTIN - Toccata
Leonid LYUBOVSKY - Sonata, first movement, op. 41/1 (1975)
P. SALIMAN-VLADIMIROV - Intermezzo

I believe this composer was a Volga German who, like many people of that ethnicity, lived and worked in Kazakhstan. According to this reference listing, he has at least one piano sonata, written on Kazakh folk themes:

Oskar GEILFUS (Oskar Geilfuß)
Trombone Concerto (piano reduction)

Another work by Hakhinyan. This is one of the only things by him I've heard and it's a smashingly good piece:

Grigor Mushegovich HAKHINYAN (AKHINYAN, AKHINIAN) (Armenia)
Trombone Concerto (piano reduction)
