Ludomir Rozycki (1884-1953)......one of my favourite Polish composers. Here is his Op 42 Four Intermezzi (No.1 only has been available on IMSLP).

And sincere thank you for my birthday wishes from members on Facebook or by e-mail.

Malcolm

Thank you Malcolm for the Rozycki. Seems like a long time since we've seen any of his pieces. These little morsels are a delight to play.

Sec on dit!
(Seconded!)

Will in due course post some rare larger out-of-print works by fairly unknown Polish composers
Edward BURY and Tadeusz SZELIGOWSKI
(the chap who composed „Guitar and Shawm“, posted previously on PP).

Looking forward to that, Alfred. I well remember "Gitary z Zalamei" (which sounds more like mandolin to my ears) but I've never learned what a Zalamei is....

I think it is a double-reed instrument, mainly used in folk-music.
(More correctly called „szałamaja“ in Polish - in English „shawm“, in German „Schalmei“ or „Hirtenschalmei“.)

Sort of medieval oboe as you can see in this video:

Guess I'll need to learn a few more Polish musical terms to keep up with this thread!

I find interesting this discussion about shawms and chalumeaux. However, it seems that the title "Gitary z Zalamei" just means Guitars from Zalamea or Guitars of Zalamea. Zalamea is a Spanish city.

You are right!!! I was misdirected by the „Shawm-like“ legato melody on page three!

...don't know why, but op. 35 sounds somewhat familiar to me...

To our „Ironman“ (Ferruccio):

Out-uf-print (OUP)

Edward BURY
Variations and Fugue op. 35

Pianistically demanding piece of late-romantic and
mildly contemporary contents. Some Szymanowsky influence.
Written for pianist Marian Filar.
