Alexander Zarzycki. Born 1834, L'vov – died 1895, Warsaw. Polish pianist and composer. He studied in L’vov before further studies in Paris (1856-61) with Reber. Concertized extensively across Europe. From 1866-74, was the director of the Warsaw Music Society; later in 1879 he became director of the Warsaw Conservatoire. He wrote a number of effective piano pieces; a piano concerto; a Grande Polonaise for piano & orchestra – and yet he is best remembered for his Op 26 Mazurka for Violin and Orchestra [he also wrote other violin works that too gained a measure of popularity].

Attached a Polonaise militaire by Teofil Klonowski (1805-1876). His setting of Gaude Mater Polonia (for SATB) is still very popular in Poland and may be currently found in the repertoire of many Polish choirs.
