Liszt Transcendental Etudes, ed. Gallico (Schirmer, 1903)
All Best,

Liszt - 12 Etudes d'Execution Transcendante (Gallico).pdf
Dear Frank,
this is quite nice! But a while ago I in fact purchased a (used) paper copy of this edition!
P.S. Regarding the Paganini Etudes: I strongly recommend the
Ricordi edition by Attilio
Brugnoli (still in print). A 139 pages volume which contains
all available versions! Brugnoli added fingerings and pedal indications - thus it is an excellent practical edition but does not fully represent the Urtext.

Rosenthal's edition adds exquisite markings to Liszt's wonderful evocation of birds, The detail we have here yields a very precise interpretation that is quite magical.. I had the pleasure of visiting the small church that St. Francis built which is now contained within a larger church and the encountering the many pilgrims visiting the site. Playing this piece again stirred up those pleasant memories.
Thank you for this terrific edition, Alfred.

You are welcome! Thank you for feedback, dear fleubis!
Although he had strong leanings (a bit too strong for my taste)
for the glittering rituals of the Roman Catholic Church,
Liszt definitely was a deeply religious person.

Alfred, do you have the Rosenthal Polish Songs edition? Given his liberal interpretation of the score to Zyczenie in his recording, I'm very curious to see his commentary. Thank you.

Sonata ed. Ignaz
Friedman
Most remarkable is Friedman's
„Analytical Pedaling“.
Friedman is using the right pedal mainly in a way to make clear the structure of the music,
to emphasize the phrasing, to bring out certain musical motives.
I split this volume („Gesammelte Werke, Ausgabe in zwölf Heften, IV. Originalkompositionen“)
into three separate files, which may be more useful for archiving.

Wonderful edition, this Fiedman, Alfred. While I am not the greatest fan of this Sonata, feeling that it is not Liszt's best work, a good clear interpretation does go a long way. For sure, the chief culprit of a bad interpretation is pedaling. Followings Friedman's well thought-out markings can change all that and this hires scan is a pleasure to read on my computer screen at the piano.
Thanks for posting this, Alfred. Love these Friedman editions.

Usted es bienvenido, querido fleubis!
Thank you for your comment!
Legenden and 2nd Ballade to follow!
P.S. May I ask what you think are Liszt's best (original) piano works?
