I believe this may come from his ballet "From the Heart of a Mountain" [two pieces were included in an Anthology of Soviet Music that Alfor posted some months back although it does not include this specific piece]...........and unfortunately I do not have a copy. I can explore about obtaining a copy if no one else has the score ?

You are right. This indeed comes from the ballet you mentioned. Many thanks for responding. Seems to be an usual piece of transcription then.
I will include a recording of this on the recording section , so other members can hear it.

Poor Tikhon Khrennikov tends to be labelled with a bad image as Stalin's music henchman, but I think time may reveal that he did more to protect his fellow compariots than we may imagined. I have always enjoyed Khrennikov's music although it follows pure Soviet ideals to be pleasant and understandable to the masses [nice and simple just like me] :D

Here is his Op 5 Three Pieces [1. Portrait 2. Funeral 3. Dance].

Malcolm,
Do you happen to know if Alexander Mosolov's Opera "the hero" was ever recorded?
It was written around the 1920's , the same time when zavod was composed.
A very avant-garde staging was made in 1989. Apparently it was extremely modern. A very important work of his.

Thanks for Khrennikov pieces by the way.
Was hoping you could get his other concertis

Hi Tont

No...I have no record of the opera ever being recorded in the Soviet Union [unless Isokani might know different]?

And 2nd concerto not forgotten.............I have it on my pile ready to scan :D

Sergei Lyapunov (1859-1924) composed some of the most exquisite piano music by any Russian composer - the Op 11 Etudes, Sonata and the two sets of Variations being firm favourites. There are a handful of non-opus piano works that have also intrigued me and have also been very difficult to find. Luckily I have recently been able to locate copies of four of these works, which are duly shared with you.

Canon in E major & Allegretto Scherzando (1923)

Two Preludes in Db major and G major (1949)

Dear Malc,
Many thanks for the Lyapunov and the Schytte; great finds!

I adore the Lyapunov Nocturne, Op.8... sadly it is too difficult (as is most of his music) for my abilities. Does anyone know if his sonatina Op.65 has been recorded?

Regards,
Parag

Hi Parag

I am not aware of any recording of Lyapunov's sonatina [there have been a few Cd recordings of his piano music but none have ever inlcuded the sonatina]. Unless there is some very obscure recording out there somewhere.

We have been fortunate to have had a fair number of works posted on PP for the composer, Zara Levina (1906-1976). In line with most Soviet composers she also completed an album of pieces for young people [although do stress quite capable young people]. Especially for those members who teach our younger folk......her Album for Youth [also includes a Toccata].
Levina Z - Album for Youth.pdf
Index of pieces:
1. In Separating
2. Game with a ball
3. “Perepelochka” Belarus Folksong
4. Russian Dance [from the ballet "Son Dryomovich" by Chemberdzhi]
5. "Our Duty to Friends" Russian foksong [unsure of translation ?]
6. In Olden Times
7. Joyous/Merry [based on Russian folksong]
8. Streams under the snow
9. Piece [based on Russian folksongs]
10. Toccata
