Here's a recent find from the internet. Just so nobody's confused, there were multiple publishing outfits (i.e. Muzyka-Leningrad, Muzyka-Moscow, and Sovetsky Kompozitor) in the Soviet Union that embarked on 'Concert Pieces by Soviet Composers' series at different times over the years. I've been intermittently working on a spreadsheet that lists all on the plate numbers.

This follows up on Malcolm's above post of Kornakov's music, as well as some excellent previous contributions by Alfor. A bio and partial works list for Kornakov can be seen at https://translate.googleusercontent.com ... g2MYd6l8ZQ .

Several other of Dmitri Tolstoy's numerous sonatas have been shared in the past, in addition to his 24-prelude set, piano concerto, songs, and a string quartet.

Concert Pieces by Soviet Composers, Vol. 2 (Muzyka, Leningrad, pub. 1983)

Dmitri Alekseyevich TOLSTOY (TOLSTOI) - Sonata no. 9, op. 60
Sergei Sergeyevich PROKOFIEV - Sonatina no. 1 in E minor, op. 54/1
Sergei Sergeyevich PROKOFIEV - Sonatina no. 2 in G major, op. 54/2
Yury Nikolayevich KORNAKOV (Buryatia) - Sonata no. 3

Having mentioned the different series above, this one is not to be confused with Alfor's past post, which is the 'Vol. 6' of the series published by Muzyka, released a year earlier than this collection and featuring a completely different set of composers.

This volume deserves credit for making it clear which of the V. Uspensky composers is featured. Victor was an early Soviet composer who worked as an ethnomusicologist in Central Asia. Both him and Shaposhnikov were Russians who became official artists in Turkmenistan and/or Uzbekistan.

Alexey Rybnikov is most well-known for composing 'Juno and Avos', a hugely popular Soviet-era rock opera that came out in the 1980s.

Concert Pieces by Soviet Composers, Vol. 6 (Sov. Kompozitor, pub. 1977)

Victor Alexandrovich USPENSKY - Fragment from 'Uzbek Rhapsody' (on an Uzbek classical theme) (1944) (composer's bio at https://translate.google.com/translate? ... sstv-.html )
Victor Alexandrovich USPENSKY - Prayer to the Fire (from the music for the drama 'Mukonna') (1943)
Adrian Grigoryevich SHAPOSHNIKOV - Pieces (3); 1. Fairy Tale (Skazka), 2. Distant Princess, 3. Fantastic Menuet (1914-15) (composer's work list at https://translate.google.com/translate? ... nikov.html )
Simon Pargevovich OGANESYAN (OGANESIAN) (Armenia) - Poem (1973) (bio and works list at https://translate.google.com/translate? ... %25D1%2587 )
Alexey Lvovich RYBNIKOV - Toccata (bio at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexey_Rybnikov )
Vaag Georgyevich ARARATYAN (Armenia) - Vagarshapatsky Dance
Alexander Kuzmich VUSTIN (WUSTIN) - Toropets Songs (3) (1972); 1. The Clear Field, 2. My Nightingale, 3. But I've Seen-Saw

Does anyone have any information about V. Shcherbachov, especially a list of piano works?

Thanks
Hi besmart

Look for my 'book' in the Information & Literature thread (Encyclopaedia of Russian & Soviet Piano Music) - and that should give you your answer.

During one of my searches across the internet, I came across a number of works by Uzbekistan composers, and also found websites of various other related composers, one of which was Valery Saparov. Bio below plus a selection of his piano music, which is available on his site............all I have done is translated titles etc. into English. Full list of his piano works is in my 'book' in the 'Information and Literature' thread.

There is also one work in the orchestral thread, and a few pieces in the two piano and piano / 4 hands threads.

Malcolm

besmart - I think you'll find this is the 4 hand version by Vedernikov. Only aware of the Scherzo from this symphony being arranged for piano solo by Vedernikov.

Another completely new composer to me: Yury Andreyevich Vesnyak. Born 1957, Amvrosievka, Donetsk. Ukrainian composer.

Studied with Soloyov at the Kirov Amvrosievka music school – accordion and domra. After his first year, he then enrolled with the Children’s Music School, studying with Ivakhnenko. In 1973, he left to study in the Artyomovsk Pedagogical School, bayan under Petukhov. In 1977, he then entered the Taganrog State Pedagogical Institute, but by May 1979 transferred to the Faculty of Folk Instruments of the Rostov State Music & Pedagogical Institute (now conservatoire) under Sakharov.

After graduating, he served in the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Red banner North Caucasian Military District, where he started to composer works for the local orchestra. In 1983, after being demobilized, he joined the composition department of the Rostov State Conservatoire, graduating in 1986 (his graduation piece being his first symphony).

Vesnyak then became the music director for the Rostov State Regional Puppet Theatre, where he created a number of works to support theatre production. Noted composer of works for national folk instruments.
