I have a few additional works to post for Polovinkin and hope to do so shortly.....but in the meantime, let's start on the "R"s.

Nikolai Petrovich Rakov. Born 1908, Kaluga: died 1990. Conductor, pedagogue and composer. Graduate in 1931 from the Moscow Conservatoire, where he studied composition with Gliere and Vasilenko. A year later he took up a teaching position with the conservatoire. His students included: B Tchaikovksy, Denisov, Eshpai, Gadzhiyev, K Khachaturian, Ledenyov, Muradeli, Peiko and Rozhdestvensky. As a composer he was particualrly noted for his instrumental works especially the Violin Concerto No. 1, which has remained his most popular work. His music is romantic, nationalistic, lyrical and colourful….not too dissimilar to that of his fellow composer, Kabalevsky. Piano works include:

I stress the works list is probably incomplete, Rakov wrote a considerable amount of music and it is very difficult to track down information on the full range of his works. I have posted a number of works to reflect Rakov’s compositional style – from more complex works such as the etudes, to selections from the albums aimed at children and younger players.

I will post the four piano concertos in a new thread I will be creating shortly on Pianophilia.

I don't think Rimsky-Korsakov needs much introduction here.........I'm not planning to post his solo piano works [unless there are any special requests as the vast majority of his scores are available on IMSLP] - but an arrangement by the composer of his orchestral Overture on Russian Themes for Piano / 4 hands. Alas I discovered after scanning them that IMSLP already had posted copies of his Op 6 Fantasy and Op 29 Fairytale [teach me to check more thoroughly next time  ]!!

Here is a Soviet-era folio of small piano pieces. According to the written note on the cover, it is "Dobrovolskaya - Piano Pieces." As I cannot read Cyrillic I cannot confirm this information, however it is obvious that the folio contains works by multiple composers. I have scanned the color cover as a separate attachment. Enjoy.

Also on the subject of children's pieces I am uncertain as to the group's level of interest but I have a set of "Biryulki - Little Pieces For Piano" by S. Maikapar, Op. 28 parts I and II. I remember one of Liadov's early publications was a set of Biryulki. These seem rather nice. I am again posting the cover and table of contents only and will let the membership determine as to whether the whole should be uploaded (which I will gladly do if warranted).
