Thanks for the Raff suite, Sir Peter.

And thanks also to Jeremey for locating the captivating Raff Fantasy.

Finally! I have found the Raff Piano Suite No.7.
It was hidden away in one of the boxes in my collection and has taken me three days to find.
With my best wishes.

Many thanks to Sir Peter for unearthing the treasure of Raff's 7th Suite. This is really an exquisite piece. Until these suites and the fantasy were posted I had no idea that Raff had written anything nearly this good, and fine concert music it is, too.

I did a search here and at Sibley and IMSLP. IMSLP has an entry but they are blocked (and by mistake I believe, as to my understanding it has been more than 50 years since the composer's death).

Many thanks also - they are fascinating! I have read that Liszt's students played a lot of Raff and that Raff was "up there" with the best of them in his day - that leaves us with much to learn and discover about this composer! Thanks again!

In case you are not aware of it, there is a site devoted to Raff and his music here....

www.raff.org/index.htm

Also IMSLP have a great deal of his music available.

Peter, thanks very much for the Raff Piano Suites. The Ländler from No.5 is so beautiful!

Thank you for your comments Jeremy. I totally agree with you.
Do you know Suite No.4. This is my favourite one. For me, every movement is quite wonderful.
Great March in the last movement. Fun to play too.
All seven Suites have been recorded, coupled with Raff's arrangements of the Bach Cello Suites
These are on AK COBURG discs. (Four of them). Alexander Zolotarev is the fine pianist on them.

Thanks very much for your suggestion, Peter. I don't know the Suite No.4, but I'll check it out tonight. I just got the recordings yesterday and have only listened to Suites 2 and 5 on the first CD. The Ländler is a 'must learn'.
