Valentina Jaiani (20th c ?)
Thanks for these new riches Malcolm!

I tried to find some more information about Valentina Jaiani/Jayani. There is a (presumed) mention of her on a page about a Georgian school of music in Israel: "My wife and I got to know each other in the ensemble "Hang" in the House of Culture. The head of the ensemble was Valentina Jayani, the mother of [Tengiz Jayani [composer and conductor]".

Tengiz Jayani (1937-) pushes her birthdate back to early 20th C.

Likely in the Georgian National Library. It may be they will be scanned at some stage like Nos. 1 & 3 (I keep hoping). Alternatively you could try the library but they never seem to reply to any of my inquiries. If you could find someone who could write in Georgian, I suspect you may then get a reply.

caostotale wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:01 am In both the Georgian and Russian translation, the score indicates that this is a 'M. Kancheli' and, to me, seems way too early a publication to be one of Giya Kancheli's, i.e. the composer was only 13 when this was published, let alone written (which would have likely been a year or two earlier). I tried, but couldn't find any info on another composer of that name, but still feel like it's within possibility that there was a different Kancheli working in Georgia in the mid-century.
Well spotted Caostotale...........you are correct. Think I was too quick to automatically think it was by Giya. I have amended as such. Like you searched but could not find anything on a M Kancheli.

Malcolm
I google-translated M Kancheli back into Georgian and put into the Georgian library website and out popped:

M. Kancheli : Tbilisi State Conservatory Music theory professor at the Department. 1921-1984
Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili State Conservatory; Ministry of Culture of the Georgian SSR; Georgian Composers' Union.
A reference to an obituary in a newspaper is linked, but not digitised.

Georgian searches hit a dead-end, so I tried Russian, et voila:
