From the Georgian music site: an excellent album of piano works, many of which were new to me. Not the best of scans but quite readable.

Malcolm:

Thank you very much.

A brief biography notes:

Giya Kancheli’s 80th Birthday.

Giya Kancheli was born in Tbilissi on 10 August 1935. From 1956 to 1963 he studied composition with Ilya Tuskiya at the State Conservatory in Tblissi and then worked as a freelance composer, writing music for films and incidental music for the stage. He began teaching composition at the State Conservatory beginning in 1970 and one year later became the music director of the State Academic Rustaveli Theatre in Tbilissi. From 1984 to 1989 Kancheli was chairman of the Georgian Composers’ Union. He moved to Berlin in 1991, where he received a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) stipend and in 1995 relocated to Belgium as composer in residence with the Flemish Philharmonic in Antwerp; he has lived there ever since, where he is active as a freelance composer.

In both the Georgian and Russian translation, the score indicates that this is a 'M. Kancheli' and, to me, seems way too early a publication to be one of Giya Kancheli's, i.e. the composer was only 13 when this was published, let alone written (which would have likely been a year or two earlier). I tried, but couldn't find any info on another composer of that name, but still feel like it's within possibility that there was a different Kancheli working in Georgia in the mid-century.

Well spotted Caostotale...........you are correct. Think I was too quick to automatically think it was by Giya. I have amended as such. Like you searched but could not find anything on a M Kancheli.

Even the Georgian site that posted that piece has no other works by that composer and simply lists him or her as 'M. Kancheli.' Oh well. One more mystery for the pile!

From Georgian music site: Darejan Okrommudlishvili (?)

Unfortunately can not find any information on this composer at the moment. All of his scores are in manuscript - but piano album is particularly clear to read.

Further works also in the chamber music section.

Some of her pictures come up http://dspace.nplg.gov.ge/simple-search ... A%E1%83%98...

Also her name better transcribed as Darejan Okromch'edlishvili. I'll let you know if I find any information about her.

Best,
