You can see some preview pages of the Mozart quartets transcriptions by Cara here: http://www.santinocara.com/en/music/boo ... orte-solo/ It doesn't seem to make for the most comfortable sight-reading or playing, in my opinion, but it still looks acceptably good. They certainly all seem to be actual transcriptions, Timtin, which, by the way, I also always prefer to concert arrangements, fantasies, paraphrases et al. Nothing wrong with that, but it just doesn't do it to me as something like, say, Liszt's transcriptions of Beethoven's 9 symphonies, which are much more faithful to the original works.

I think Felix Guenther sums it up well enough in the preface to his own transcriptions of 24 Bach Chorale preludes, which Scriabinoff kindly uploaded here:

"Liszt and Busoni, the great masters of a new technique of writing for the piano, have in their transcriptions of Bach's organ works, tried to reproduce the orchestral sound of the modern organ. No sensible musician will deny that in these transcriptions, Bach's works achieve a massive and even overwhelming effect. But the question remains whether these transcriptions, which are definitely in the neo-romantic mood of the late 19th century, are in the spirit of Bach's style. The original scores of his Choral Preludes are exceptionally unpretentious. He never resorted to any type of over-emphasis. (...) In the transcriptions of Bach's Choral Preludes in this book, I have tried to keep Bach's musical personality as it is revealed in his original scores. (...) My transcriptions are simply reproductions, for the use of pianists, of organ works as Bach himself would have played them."

Emperor Joseph maybe would have said: "Too many notes, dear mr. Cara"...
The transcriptions certainly aren't easy.
As a sample here's mov. 1 of the String quartet Timtin transcribed also,
to make a comparison for one yourself.

Thank you Kroket for the sample file. Just glancing at it briefly,
there do seem to be some very large stretches in a few bars,
which Cara has written as broken chords.

I don't have the score of the Friskin arrangement, but:

Seymour Bernstein published his adaptation of the Friskin arrangement.

On IMSLP there is a transcription for piano solo of this score by J. Erdos.
And here is a transcription by R. Ehrmann (Corona collection).

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if the following has been transcribed from organ to piano: Herr Jesus Christ, dich zu uns wend, BWV 709?

I've found a Bach-Feinberg BWV 655 version, but it's very different.

Hopeful, and much appreciated. Thanks.

Leon

Scriabinoff wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:07 am Would like to add a request (I believe they are out of print. I'm having a super hard time finding any hard copy scores, only a few example of scans about on the interwebs):

Dmitry Kabalevsky did some transcriptions. I have these:
Toccata & Fugue in D minor ("Dorian"), BWV 538, transcribed for piano
Prelude & Fugue in C minor ("Arnstadt"), BWV 549
Eight Little Preludes and Fugues:

Prelude & Fugue in C major, BWV 553, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 1)
Prelude & Fugue in D minor, BWV 554, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 2)
Prelude & Fugue in E minor, BWV 555, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 3)
Prelude & Fugue in F major, BWV 556, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 4)
Prelude & Fugue in G major, BWV 557, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 5)
Prelude & Fugue in G minor, BWV 558, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 6)
Prelude & Fugue in A minor, BWV 559, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 7)
Prelude & Fugue in B flat major, BWV 560, transcribed for piano (Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, No. 8)

am looking for:
Toccata & Fugue in D minor, BWV 565,
Trio Sonata No. 2 in C minor, BWV 526

I believe that's all he did, if anyone has an example I missed, would also be super greatful if that can post.
Many Thanks!

PS came accross this index of Bach transcriptions by composer, thought I'd share as a good FYI
