Nogbert wrote:I am personally most intrigued by two works by de Bréville that I have never heard or seen. Is anybody able to post his Piano Sonata, and the four-movement virtuoso suite ‘Stamboul’ (later orchestrated, I gather)?
Not his piano sonata, but I've uploaded his violin sonata here viewtopic.php?f=17&t=193&p=1522#p1522

Thanks, Fred - at least it gives one a feeling for his style. The works for solo piano seem to be very elusive!

The sonata is very nice. I heard it in concert and bought one record of it.
You can listen to excerpts of the piano works on the first link:

I have the Sonata in D minor by de Bréville but nor the Suite I'm afraid. I thought I had scanned the Sonata ages ago but it is not on any of my storage places so must assume I still have it to do.
I will scan as soon as I can.

Thanks for the music snippets, Jean-Séb - I'm certainly going to try to get hold of the CD.

And Brian - I'm foaming at the mouth in anticipation of your scan of the sonata!

Hi Nogbert,
the score is too big for the scanner so I have to copy it first to A4, hopefully tomorrow, if that works then your rabies should go away over the weekend.

Oh boy! What a treat to wake up to on a gloomy, overcast Sunday morning in Jo'burg! Eternally grateful, Brian - I've been looking for this for a long time.

It would be great to see these, if you get a chance. Breville has long been nothing more than a name to me, but the piano sonata looks like a wonderful find, and it would be great to see what else he wrote.
