Jane RÖCKEL (ROECKEL), nee JACKSON (1833-1907)

Concertising pianist before her marriage in 1864 to Joseph Leopold Roeckel (1838-1906/23), a composer based in Bristol mentioned in the Salon thread. He wrote under the name Edouard Dorn.

She published music under her own name, and as JULES DE SIVRAI,such as "A River Song, Idyll for pianoforte" found in the National Library of Australia digital collection.(*)

I've found some more of Jane Röckel (Jules de Sivrai) in the National Library of Australia archive that is not on IMSLP. I sent the NLA a note that De Sivrai is a pseudonym, which they had not appeared to have picked up on.

Some of her pieces have quite brilliant writing akin to William Vincent Wallace. I wonder if they met in real life? Both of them have a predilection for suites based on folk songs of the British Isles. Rosemary Tuck has recorded a disc of WVW's contributions to the genre:

Arabella Goddard championed Röckel (or De Sivrai) works, and Blair Athol, Brilliant Fantasia on Scotch Airs is "composed expressly" for her.

This published score is a little blurry in places, and it took me a while to pick apart some naturals from semidemiquaver rests when I reset it.

This piece has a hilariously varied range of musical directions amounting to a short course in Italian (even if the words are often misspelled).

I've now re-set all of the Jane Röckel works available as online scans, most of which were published under the pseudonym Jules de Sivrai.

The bio at https://www.sophie-drinker-institut.de/roeckel-jane says she wrote over 200 works and gives a partial list. I've expanded that with titles of other works listed at the National Library of Australia (or state libraries), many of which are not digitised. I've been quoted about AUD$20 each for similar works, so may leave that for a later day of lottery winnings.

There was also a wonderful new disc of her music released, though, alas, the scores are hard to find. Perhaps the pianist can be reached also for assistance.

The only piano solo works I can see are Opp.6 and 8. There's a document with "Piano manuscripts and drafts that are not completely useless"

Tess, I think you mean Op 19 Blumenleben, which has a piece called Rose (op 9 is an Impromptu).
