Would some kind individuals like to suggest the names (and if willing, particular works) of women composers whom you deem to be excellent at their craft, but who are not recorded at all (or recorded very little); those who you believe are deserving of recordings? I am liaising with an enterprising pianist who hopes to make a project out of recording women composers who aren't represented in recordings. Names like Johanna Senfter, Franziska Mueller Hermann and Mathilde Kralik have been bandied about already, but please let me know others.

Yours anticipatingly!

My contribution....

Szymanowska, Maria - complete works have been recorded
Farrenc, Louise - excellent composer - some works have been recorded
Hensel-Mendelssohn, Fanny - some works being recorded - her music can be hard to obtain
**Blahetka, Leopoldine - hoping that SOMEDAY we have a disc of her music!!
Schumann, Clara - complete works recorded
Galos, Giselle - would be interesting to have professional recordings of this mysterious composer!
Jaell, Marie - there is currently a project underway to record her complete works
Menter, Sophie - most of her small output has been recorded
Backer-Grondahl, Agathe - complete works have been recorded
Wurmbrand-Stuppach (Brand-Vrabely), Stephanie - would be interesting to explore...
**Ferrari, Gabriella (Gabrielle) - also HOPING that someone will take more interest in this interesting Italian/French composer!!!
Carreño, Teresa - her music is being recorded more and more, but there is still more to go!
Chaminade, Cecile - most of her music has been recorded, though there are still missing recordings! would love to see complete works set!
Bonis, Melanie (Mel) - same - a number of her works have been recorded, but would love to see a complete set!
Krzyzanowska, Halina - exploring this composer could be interesting...
Beach, Amy - most of her works have been recorded...
Tailleferre, (Marcelle) Germaine - a number of works have been recorded, but all?
Boulanger, Lili - same...
Brown, Rosemary - not sure if the works are by her pen or a veritable "ghost" writer!

The two that I would really like to see are Gabriella Ferrari and Leopoldine Blahetka... :) Good luck!

Surely the less interesting of all those composers. It seems that all the works we know sound alike, very sweet, but I cannot imagine a CD filled with that!

Well, yes, that may very well be, but everyone has different tastes and interests! Just wanted to give a broad sampling... :)

This polonaise by Blahetka has long been a favourite of mine.

Hi Brian

If you weren't already aware, there is a disk of piano music by Mel Bonis forthcoming from Laurent Martin.
Details here.

In fact, Brian, there is another recording of Bonis's piano works here.
