George de Cairos-Rego (1858-1946) Australian music critic and occasional composer.

His fantasie on Stephen Foster's Old Folks at Home, dating from 1896. I found this in the NSW State Library.

Th whole de Cairos-Rego family were very active musicians in Sydney in the early 20th century (La Cascades, anyone?). I think future scores should go in the Australian composers thread.

Jean-Séb wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2013 9:12 am Edward Hoffman Andrews, "famous pianist" in New-York was the youngest brother of the other famous pianist Richard Hoffman Andrews (1803-1891), to whom Gottshalk dedicated the Banjo. Richard and Edward were born in Manchester but emigrated early to the States where they had all their career. Richard did not become a U.S. citizen. I am not sure, but I believe that Edward was a U.S. citizen. He was mainly remembered for a piece the Mocking Bird.
Richard wrote musical recollections:

You can read an account of their early appearance in a concert in Manchester:
http://books.google.fr/books?id=FJMPAAA ... ws&f=false
Three versions of The Mocking Bird, which dates to 1864. The work has an introduction, followed by Auld Lang Syne plus variations, then Listen to the Mocking-Bird with variations.

1. US edition (Lee & Walker) : Grand Fantasia on the Popular Theme / Grand Paraphrase de Concert
HOFFMAN The Mocking Bird (Variations) [US edition].pdf
2. Australian edition, edited by Emanuel de Beaupuis. Composer misspelled as Hoffmann on wrapper, correctly within. "Pianoforte Fantasia"
HOFFMAN The Mocking Bird (Variations)(ed. Beaupuis).pdf
3. My resetting, drawing on both editions
HOFFMAN The Mocking Bird.pdf

I'm also going to type the world Mockingbird here, as it was a devil to locate these posts with the various spellings of composer and work!

http://composers-classical-music.com/a/ ... offman.htm gives his year of birth as 1836, and IMSLP has him flourishing to 1910. It's not clear if Andrews was the birthname or a temporary name for passage to the US.
