Carlos Guastavino, Born 1912: died 2000. Argentine composer.
Studied music in Santa Fe with Esperanza Lothringer and Dominga Iaffei, and later in Buenos Aires with Athos Palma. He was a noted pianist and performed his piano works in London in 1947, 1948, and 1949 at the invitation of the BBC [he also won a scholarship from the British Council]. During these years, the BBC Symphony Orchestra premiered the orchestral version of his Tres Romances Argentinos, under the baton of Walter Goehr. Later, in 1956, Guastavino toured the USSR and China.

One of the foremost Argentine composers of the 20th century, his production amounted to over 500 works, most of them songs for piano and voice [many still unpublished]. His style was quite conservative, always tonal and lusciously romantic and reflected an Argentine folk music influence. His reputation was based almost entirely on his songs, and Guastavino has sometimes been called "the Schubert of the Pampas."

Being aware that his music is still under copyright I have posted a few of his scores as an example of his compositional style. A lot of his piano music is currently published by Ricordi Americana, and is easily obtainable on the internet for normal prices at http://www.musikalienhandel.de

There have been a number of posts in this thread which have been deleted either because they have uploaded further works of Guastavino or else do not contribute meaningfully to this thread.

To reiterate, Oren was allowed to upload these works as a sample only of Guastavino's output. Users are requested not to upload any more of his works without checking with the site owner, Malcolm Ballan, first.

Julian Antonio Tomas Aguirre (Buenos Aires, January 28 of 1868 - † Buenos Aires, August 13 of 1924) Was a composer Argentina synthesized musical creation as traditional forms of Folklore Argentina and the classical music. He founded the music section of the Ateneo and National Fine Arts Committee.
Influenced by the musical nationalism in Spain in the late nineteenth century, soon sought the same roots in Argentina. With the idea of capturing the essence of their land and turn it into a form of music, wrote some of the finest pieces from the air "of the minstrels of the plains and valleys north", as one critic of the time.

The main titles of their production are Aires Creole popular Aires, Argentina Sad and national Aires, Argentina Rhapsody for violin and piano, and songs like Caminito and the nest away. Particularly beautiful are their school songs, imbued with this spirit and folklorist based mainly on solid literary enjoyed a wide circulation; separate composed other works beyond the aesthetic, as his compositions for piano: Dance of Belkis, Spanish Mazurka, cat, footprint (both internationally famous because of the brilliant orchestration of Ernest Ansermet) and four volumes of national Aires.

A national law of 1926 decided to erect a monument in his memory in the rose garden of Parque Tres de Febrero of Buenos Aires, A bronze bust that was paid for by public subscription and opened in 1934.

In 1960 the conservatory was an officer in the town of Banfield with the name of Julian Aguirre, to pay tribute to the memory of the famous Argentine composer as Min Res 678/60 of the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Province of Buenos Aires.

Cayetano Troiani "Escondido" (hidden)

Brief Biography: Born in Castiglione Messer Marino (Chieti) in 1873. After studying in the early years Buenos Aires traveled to Naples and graduated in piano and composition. He returned to Buenos Aires with the masters directing Forino Hector and Hercules Galvani Santa Cecilia Conservatory in 1907. He was professor of harmony at the National Conservatory of Music and author of exquisite musical compositions. He died in 1942.

1.- Juan Jose Castro (Avellaneda, March 7 of 1895 - † Buenos Aires, September 3 of 1968) composer, pianist, violinist and conductor Argentina.

2.-Jose Maria Castro

Composer, conductor, cellist. He belonged to a notable family musicians. Both his father, John Joseph, like his younger brothers, Louis Arnold, Juan Jose and Washington, played a prominent activity.
José María Castro graduated from the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Buenos Aires, with first prize, gold medal in 1907. There studied cello with José García Jacot (master Pablo Casals) and Humberto Ferrari, with Constantino Gaito harmony and composition with Edward Fornarini.
As interpreter started his career in the orchestra of the Teatro Colon (1913-1914). But his important and fruitful career he developed within the field of chamber music and orchestral conducting. He joined the Society Argentina Quartet Chamber Music (1914-1915), Fontova with León, Juan Jose Castro (violin), Anibal Canut (viola) and Constantino Gaito (piano). Between 1916 and 1917 was part of the Trio and Quartet Wagnerian Association of Buenos Aires. He shared his task and Roque Vela Citro Telmo (on fiddles, the latter was succeeded by Fernando Criscuolo), Bruno Bandini (viola) and Juan Jose Castro (piano). In 1926, founding the Society of the Quartet, had the fellow to his brother Juan Jose, Manuel Almirall (violin), Bruno Bandini (viola) and Francisco Amicarelli (piano). Two years later participated in the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra.

3.- Washington Castro was born in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina on 13 July 1909.
The youngest of the family of musicians began their studies at a corresponding age, studied composition with Honorio Siccardi and cello with his brother, Jose Maria, and Alberto Schiuma, and completed his training with Maurice Maréchal1 instrumentalist. Pablo Casals in Paris to see his qualities as an interpreter.
In 1929, Washington began his work as a cellist, to appear in the main rooms of the capital and the interior. Young has served as soloist in agencies such as the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra and Radio Symphony Orchestra World, was the founder of the Haydn quartets and Acedo, and has served on since its inception the Association of Cellists of Buenos Aires . Thanks to his excellent work, and has earned awards sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and his performance has gone beyond borders in a successful concert tour performing in Paris, Rome and London by the year 1971.
With time, experience and professionalism permeated into the skin, withdraws from this activity and making the commitment to join the Classic Argentine Interpreters Association, as a founding member in 1989. While he has belonged to the area of management, Castro began in 1944, to obtain a competitive position in the Chamber Orchestra of Orchestral Faculty Association.
Then by the year 1956 has been hired to organize the creation of the Province of Santa Fe Symphony, an organization with which debuted in May of that year and which has tended to serve until 1963. Subsequently Washington has become stable director of the symphony orchestras of Cordoba in 1964, Youth Chamber "Teodoro Fuchs" LRA Radio Nacional until 1976, Mar del Plata Symphony until 1984 Jeunesses Musicales subsidiary Mar del Plata in 1988 .
This music teacher has egercido teaching in the conservatory Manuel de Falla "and" Juan José Castro ", La Lucila, and at the universities of La Plata, Littoral and Cordoba, where he was responsible Chairs Cello and Chamber Music, delivered in an incredible way as has been his work in the field of musical creation beginning with two works, "Festive Overture" and "Sonata for clarinet and piano.

Then in 1946 comes "El Concierto campestre" inaugurates a new line of work: as reflected in his compositions translate into plastic sorting elements.
In 1986, on the muse of Picasso paintings, comes "Symphonic Suite" which was composed in 1983 and revised in 1986, has been inspired by paintings from different periods of production of the famous Spanish.

In his distinguished career Washington Castro, has received awards in quantity, as they have been: Mention the Music Critics Circle of Buenos Aires "for the best Argentine conductor of the season 1950. Also, the honor of being appointed by the representative of Argentina before the International Competition Jury "Villalobos" for Conductors, or 1979 who has been appointed Academician of the National Academy of Fine Arts. They have become Illustrious Citizen of Mar del Plata, where he has also won the prize "Neptune", instituted by the Municipality of Gen. Pueyrredón; the Municipal Prize "Alfonsina Storni" in the category Music, Peter Luro Prize, the Trade Union of Industry and Production. They have also recognized his career with the Grand Prize of the Society of Authors and Composers in 1990, the Prize Consecration of the Province of Buenos Aires the following year, the Prize of the Music Critics Association Argentina, the Prize of the Chamber Orchestra Instrumental Ensemble Argentino del Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, Konex Platinum Award in 1999, the Proscenium Foundation Prize in the area of Music and Dance to reach 2001 and the Grand Prix 2001 National Endowment for the Arts.

Vincent Constantino Gaito (Buenos Aires, August 3 1878) - (Buenos Aires, December 14 1945) studied at the Conservatory Naples.
Composer, maestro and pianist.
Since 1900 he lived again in his hometown. He composed, among others, ten operas, three ballet A oratory, four symphonic poems, three suites, five openings, piano pieces and songs, as well as textbooks.

He first studied composition in Buenos Aires, and later pursued his training in Paris with Albert Roussel.
Upon his return to Argentina, López Buchardo widely contributed to establish the institutions that shaped musical life in his country.
He founded the Conservatorio Nacional in Buenos Aires, and the School of Fine Arts of the La Plata University, in addition to holding various administrative positions, including that of Director of the famous Teatro Colón. His vocal output consists of operas, masses, musical comedies, and some fifty canciones.

Felipe Boero:
Argentine composer (1884-1958). He perfected his musical studies in Paris, where he composed his first works: Shadows of Helios, the Toledo series, and glimpses Evocaciones and Ariadne and Dionysus. He returned home in 1914 and has since devoted himself to teaching activities and his art. Among his operas stand Tucumán, Raquela, The matrero and Siripo. He also composed Impressions, Danzas Argentinas; popular Aires Argentina; Suites for piano, songs, etc..
