Two works by Ernest Donajowski (1845-1922)
- La fleur du printemps Mazurka
- Rustic beauty Polka
Both published by Howard, London, nd [~1870].
Donajowski, born in Calais, became a naturalised British citizen in 1874 and founded his own edition in London.
The main part of his business (Donajowski's Miniature Scores) was sold to Eulenburg in 1894.

W. H. Kirby

Post by Phillip210 »

Some while ago, I bought in a library sale W.H. Kirby's two books of Italian Sketches from 1921. I would put them on IMSLP, but as I can find no biographical information on the composer (except that he seems to have been involved in putting on productions of light comic operas c. 1898), I can't do that for copyright reasons. Nevertheless someone requested one of the pieces from me, so I have scanned them and am happy to share them here. They are worth a look, and the last pieces of each set would make good concert pieces.

The only references I can find to W.H.Kirby are in The Musical Times (Sept.1st, 1901)
and in a hymnal. Both of these references relate to him/her as a wordsmith rather than
as a tunesmith.

Thank you Jim. If you're right, the producer of light operas (as suggested by Phillip)
and the reviewer in The Musical Times must have been either a different person or
a very precocious child!
