Hello there, mballan wrote:A Schytte mystery: I have two albums by Augener of pieces by Schytte, but alas no details on opus numbers is given. I have managed to check off the majority of these pieces with works I already hold by this composer, but are left with the following, which I am unable to verify as either do not have the full work, or am unable to locate it within Schytte's extensive list of piano pieces.
I would be very grateful, if any one is able to throw any light on these pieces.................and if not, then some more works to add to our Schytte collection.

Melodie [think this may be from Op 83] Aubade [there is an Aubade Op 77 No. 1......but this is a different work] Cantilene [can find no trace of any work with this title] Gavotte [there are several gavottes by Schytte but none match this piece] Scherzino [again unable to locate the opus for this work] Dance of the Gnomes [there is a similar titled work within Op 66 - but that is a different work] Three pieces from Op 22 ? Scherzo-Etude [this may come from one of Schytte's many volumes of etudes but unable, as yet, to link to a specific opus]
I can shed some light on this...
Five of these are from Schytte's Op. 15 Etudes and are given these imaginative titles in the collection.
Op. 15 No. 02 - Melodie
Op. 15 No. 03 - Danse des Gnomes
Op. 15 No. 04 - Cantilene
Op. 15 No. 09 - Scherzino
Op. 15 No. 16 - Scherzo-Etude
These may be updated...
**It may also be useful to note that the famous "Ghosts" piece from Schytte is from this Etude set, as well, Op. 15 No. 12 !!**
If someone could alert our dear Phillip - his notes on the YouTube recording state that he has known the Scherzo-Etude for Forty years without knowing the opus number!
I will post the Op. 15 here for reference...
I will keep digging for the others - does anyone else have any new information?
