Elgars' Idylle from his 3 Pieces for Violin & Piano was arranged for
piano solo probably by himself. As a late romantic, it's perhaps
surprising that the youthful Elgar didn't have more fire in his belly.

Handel arr. Willner Oratorien 1 (Corona).pdf
Handel arr. Willner Orchesterwerke 1 (Corona).pdf
Again the famous Saxon.
I posted vols. 2 and 3 on 2 November 2016.
Vol. 1 has, how can it be else, the Messiah.
Of the orchestral works I have only vol. 1 of 3.
It has on page 8/9 the magnificent opening of the Concerto Grosso Op. 6 no. 1.
Labeled 'a tempo giusto' by Händel, but 'Maestoso' in this edition.
But alas, when the orchestra plays I hear the king and queen enter the room.
Played on the piano, one of the servants enters the room, in my opinion.
Sometimes a transcription just doesn't work.

These impromptu piano performances by the great Erich v. Korngold would provide an exceptional opportunity for a suitably talented (and ear pitch-perfect) transcriber (such as our resident greatest transcriber, Mercuzio perhaps?) This style of improvised romantic performance is all but lost today. The second one is a personal favorite, but they all demonstrate Korngold's immense keyboard skills even during his later, Hollywood days. In any event, these are certainly worth a listen!
