The Tchaikovsky Piano Trio in a minor Op. 50. Have always wondered if a solo/ 2H transcription was ever done. Super curious to know if such a beast exists (especially since solo 2H transcriptions of other chamber works have been done).

I only know of the 2P4H version done by Zapolsky.

I only know of the 2P4H version done by Zapolsky.

There's also a 4H arrangement by E.Langer.

The P.W.Zapolski version is really just a piano arrangement of the
string parts to accompany the main piano part.

No 2H version of the complete work exists, as far as I know, having
looked very hard in the past to find one.

To me, this work seems quite unsuitable for arranging as a piano solo,
and it might indeed be far better suited arranged as a piano concerto!

Indeed no 2H exist of op.50, as well as no complete Brahms opp.8,87,101,25,26,60. This fact doesn't explain why a completye Brahms op.34 2H was made.

Yes, there are various anomalies in what chamber works do exist in
2H and what don't. (Personally, I'd love to see Dvorak's late quartets
in this form.)

Getting back to Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio, the nearest thing to a 2H
version is probably 'Tema con Variazoni', from Universal Edition's
Corona Collection No.66. This is part of the second movt. arranged
for piano solo by Richard Erhmann, although in all honesty, you could
more-or-less play this same piece straight from the full score.

Thank you so much to all who replied with feedback, info, and comments on the Tchaikovsky trio! I'm learning so much here and just wanted to express my genuine appreciation for the chance to be able to particiate (mostly I'm still aking questions, as I try to "not speak what I know not of....") and learn.

I particularly thought the idea of a concerto like work of the trio for piano and orchestra would be super interesting!

sorry, didn't want to bog the thread down with lots of short "thanks" and "ok." type individual responses but felt at least a single expression of gratitude was in order. for here and generally on the forum site as a whole.
