Incidentally, I understand there is a Mocheles transcription of Beethoven's Fidelio, and REVISED BY BEETHOVEN himself........ anyone has more information about this???

and a scan???

It seems that the transcriptions were the first vocal score
and first piano solo version of Fidelio, published in 1814
by Artaria, with Beethoven's approval.

I definitely read about Moscheles producing the vocal score (and possibly transcription) for Fidelio in Moscheles : the life of the composer and his encounters with Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, and Mendelssohn by Emil F. Smidak. This info comes directly from Moscheles' own diary. Moscheles also visited Beethoven on his deathbed (if I'm remembering correctly), and his account of that final encounter is very moving.

Celebrating my post No. 3000
(before being exterminated by the Chief Dalek alias fredbucket)
with a R-A-R-E edition of a well-known work.

For reasons unknown to me Schnabel did not finish his Beethoven edition for Ullstein.
The missing works were edited by Frederic Lamond.

So I am glad that Schnabel DID the Diabelli Variations.
For comparison I would recommend the following editions:

Henle (with more than decent fingering by Walter Lampe)
Peters (excellently fingered by Kuhlmann)
Bülow's*** edition which can be regarded as the model for Schnabel's edition
(previously posted on PP by alfor)

***He probably was the first pianist who systematically used a special fingering
in order to „enforce“ a certain execution (articulation, phrasing);
a method which Schnabel brought to perfection (with some exaggeration, though).
