Re: Composers from the Caribbean
What a day today, playing through seemingly endless varieties of Gottschalk's Tarantelle and these Espadero pieces. Most of this group of Espadero pieces are very much in the salon category, but the Elegy is the standout here and quite held my interest.
Thanks for these postings, Alfred.

Re: Composers from the Caribbean
You are welcome, dear fleubis!
Will wonders never cease: there is a different version of Espadero's Elegy!
His opus 1 is not exactly a masterwork, but slightly reminiscent of Chopin's very first waltzes.
Opus 13 (Chant de l'ame = Song of the soul***) contains a nearly Thalbergian middle section.
***In the 19th century there were definitely more „souls“ than nowadays...

Re: Composers from the Caribbean
P.S.
I wonder why no pianist took up the idea of an „Opus 1 recital“:
Schumann
Chopin
Brahms
Berg
Medtner
Szymanowski
Feinberg
Eisler
Encores:
Liszt
Wieck-Schumann
Tausig
Scriabin
Casella
Lourie
Takacs

Some very interesting additions to our Espadero collection. And just when I was starting to get into the Elegy comes this different version, but I find it inferior to the previous version. I like the charming little Cantilene.

Alfred, another great exploration run featuring Espladero interesting transcriptions And going out with a bang with his extended extravaganza on 'Ill Trovatore'.
